Through good fortune we have been able to reproduce archival
re-prints from the original Illustrations of the 1867 “Illustrated Times of London”.

Stephen Ashley a history researcher and author of the “Definitive story of the RMS Rhone” came across these 5 prints during his research. They are the only known prints that depict the devastation of the Virgin Islands after the hurricane of 1867, which was closely followed by an earthquake and tidal wave. In addition, two of the prints show the sinking of the RMS Rhone off Salt Island in the British Virgin Islands.

The prints are sepia toned and are identical to the etchings printed at the time.
